Manager - Global Accounting for Debt & Derivatives & Capital Markets
* Serve as TMCC's domestic & Global expert with respect to Debt & Derivatives portfolio and stay abreast of proposed and changing accounting principles (GAAP & IFRS) and identify key elements of pending FASB guidance that impact TMCC's debt & derivatives portfolio.
* Research, interpret, and summarize, pending accounting guidance and communicate relevant information to management and team members to ensure that accounting and reporting meets current as well as proposed Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidance.
* Partner with Global affiliates on debt & derivative transactions related to Global Treasury
* Implement new applicable accounting guidance to ensure that TMCC's debt & derivatives portfolios are GAAP compliant.
* Partner with Corporate Treasury to stay abreast of changes in the financial markets that affect Treasury Accounting, develop and implement changes that respond to new environment
* Monitor and research upcoming changes to FASB and SEC guidance and the potential impact to TMCC's debt and derivative activities. Changes in accounting legislation are often ambiguous and this position is expected to disseminate the legislation and utilize internal and external sources to develop a position on the new legislation. Partner with Global affiliates to understand changes to IFRS.
* Identify the impact to existing and future deal structures and communicate any potential issues internally. This includes communicating TMCC's position on any new accounting legislation or changes in accounting policies with auditors to reach consensus.
* Determine valuation and accounting policies for these new structures, necessary staff hours and system requirements.
* Ensure that accounting policies and treatment of the derivatives portfolio complies with applicable Financial Accounting Standards Board ("FASB") literature. Specifically, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 133, "Accounting for Derivative Instruments and Hedging Activities", which was further, amended by Standards No. 138,149 and 155, "SFAS 133").
* Ensure that proper treatment of SFAS 133 is achieved through mark-to-market testing, appropriate valuations, and documentation of the derivatives portfolio. Requires willingness to develop expertise with derivatives and an in-depth understanding of the drivers of TMCC funding strategy by working in collaboration with Corporate Treasury.
* Explain derivatives activity to Senior Management and develop accounting policies and strategies to moderate P&L volatility. Requires being able to present technical matter in a clear and concise manner.
* Build and maintain relationships internally with Capital Markets Group, Financial Reporting, Tax, Japan Staff, and Senior Management to identify and communicate innovative ways to obtain hedge treatment and moderate P&L volatility caused by derivatives and hedge accounting.
* Provide secondary review for month-end, quarter-end and year-end close of debt & derivative schedules and journal entries.
* Review all valuations for reasonableness, prior to month-end entries
* Perform high level reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
Accounting Research & Special Projects
* Ensure that the system is compliant with FASB accounting standards and achieves Company's goals of operating efficiency and accurate reporting.
* Assist in the implementation of FAS157/159.
* Participate in ad-hoc projects
Analytics & Reporting
* Assist in the draft and review process for the financial reporting disclosures in accordance with FASB and Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") guidance. Work in conjunction with the auditors to ensure that new accounting legislation has been properly implemented.
* Perform and analyze quarterly regression analysis
* Perform and analyze inception testing
* Determine deals that need to be designated under FAS133 due to ineffectiveness
* Partner with Corporate Treasury to understand ineffectiveness and provide reporting for analysis
* Review valuations validation analyses and completeness checks
Relationships
* Develop and maintain external relationships with our competitors, investment bank accounting policy groups, and national accounting firms, and industry associations, such as International Accounting Standards Association ("IASA") and International Securities and Dealers Association to identify and implement best practices for accounting policies and processes.
* Develop and maintain relationships within Corporate Treasury, Financial Reporting, Tax and Japan Staff to ensure proper and timely sharing of information to foster an environment conducive to implementing and communicating SFAS 133, 157 & 159 accounting strategies.
Qualifications
* Required to have 7 - 10 years work experience with 5+ in management.
* Proven ability to lead people and process at a senior level.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Experience with econometrics, statistics, and simulations to enhance decision-support and performance measurement functions, a plus.
* Top tier Financial Institution with experience in capital markets, and strong knowledge of current accounting practices.
* Ability to understand complex financial theory and articulate impact of initiatives to senior and executive management.
* Ability to lead and develop at team of accounting professionals.
* Individual must be able to work independently in a demanding, project-oriented, capital markets financial services environment.
* Should have 4 years "Big 4" financial services, accounting or derivatives experience preferred.
* FAS 133 experiences required.
Education:
* Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business or Economics required.
* CPA preferred
* MBA a plus.
Technical:
* Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. MS Access and PeopleSoft and Hyperion Essbase a definite plus.
