Job Description:

Design, implement, and evaluate good academic philosophy and practice in the clinical education programs of COMP, including assessment of student learning and faculty effectiveness. The position supervises the Manager, Clinical Education OMS III and OMS IV and reports to the Associate Dean, Medical Education, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. Description of Duties and Tasks 1. Direct contact and visitation of all core rotation sites on at least a yearly basis. 2. Development of new rotation sites for core and elective rotations. 3. Assists staff in compilation of preceptor and site capacity for rotation lotteries.

4. Assessment of the educational effectiveness of the core and elective sites through several metrics.

5. Reporting of results and recommendations for improvement.

6. Compilation of results for accreditation. Identification and implementation of strategies to enhance investigator collaboration and interchange between the basic and clinical scientists.

7. Evaluation and updating of the Clinical Education Manual and the College Catalog for all programs related to rotations.

8. Initiation, assessment, and revision of clinical rotation objectives for Core and Elective rotations.

9. Maintenance of established rotation sites and act as a liaison with hospital and academic partners.

10. Establish and develop clinical placements for students that are specific to curricular requirements.

11. Ensure all clinical activities are congruent with the curriculum and meet quality standards.

12. Recruit, orient, develop, and mentor clinical faculty.

13. Assist with student orientation, with emphasis on clinical components of the program.

14. Ensure that appropriate assessment processes for students and faculty are implemented.

15. Ensure that the Clinical Education program is in complete compliance with accrediting and licensing bodies.

16. Work collaboratively with preceptors/site regarding student- and program-related issues.

17. Assist with student recruitment and attrition issues as needed.

18. Work in a hands-on capacity at all times to include teaching designated course(s).

19. Responsible for content and scheduling of the Rotations Orientation and Didactic Week Programs.

20. Academic advisement, counseling, and mentoring for both current and potential students.

21. Contribute to the overall success of the rotations department staff.

22. Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills: Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. 1. Knowledge in the use of relational databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing; experience with packages to assemble, manipulates and/or format data and/or reports.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated skills in diplomacy, team building, and connecting people to a common vision. Ability to present complex information easily and accurately.

3. Ability to interact with the preceptors, hospitals, departments, and other entities; ability to exercise administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area.

4. Highly proficient in applying technology to work processes. Strong Excel spreadsheet skills required. Qualifications Standard 1. Education: Any combination, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. D.O. or M.D. degree with specialty board eligibility or certification strongly preferred. EdD or PhD degree considered.

2. Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in a related field, preferably in an academic or medical setting.
