Summary:
Reporting to the Interpreter Services Supervisor, the Medical Interpreter must demonstrate proficiency, ability, and experience in communicating medical information accurately in both English and Spanish and be able to identify and employ the appropriate mode of interpreting (e.g., consecutive, written translation, or sight translation); Have knowledge in both English and Spanish of any specialized medical terms or concepts specific to the vocabulary of general or specialized medical care and of any particular vocabulary and phraseology used by our limited English proficient (“LEPâ€) patients and patient families, both verbally and in writing. The Medical Interpreter must understand and follow confidentiality and impartiality rules to the same extent as hospital staff and to the extent their positions requires; and understand and adhere to the role of Medical Interpreter without deviating into a role as counselor, legal advisor, or other roles.

Skill to communicate effectively with persons from various educational and socio-cultural backgrounds
Passing grade on the competency test that demonstrates ability to fluently speak, read and write in Spanish and English
Basic understanding of Spanish/Latino cultural beliefs
Desired:
