DUTIES
: This position is responsible for the development and implementation of 3299’s organizing plan at the University of California Campus. The lead organizer will conduct a wide array of organizing activities, including leadership identification and recruitment, training members and staff, running elections, strategic planning, and running multiple comprehensive organizing campaigns.
• Working with Executive Board Members, Member Action Team Leaders, and Staff Organizers, develops and implements campus plan reflective of the 3299 model and in keeping with union’s statewide strategy
• With other Leads, participate in development of statewide strategy
• Supervises the organizing and development of a team of staff organizers and lost time organizers.
• Supervises campus organizing and contract enforcement activities. Participates in hiring, and evaluation of staff.
• Provides for recruitment and development of Member Action Team leaders and lost time organizers from within the AFSCME membership and for their training in one on one communications, house calling, mobilization and other campaign elements.
• Develops campaign plans with the goals, strategies and tactics necessary to execute the plan. Develops plans that involve the need for staff, volunteers, communications, offices, budget allocations, and other resources.
• Writes leaflets and other materials for organizing campaigns. Writes reports and proposal regarding organizing, political, and other campus wide activities.
• Informs Director of activities, developments and progress of assigned campaigns.
REQUIREMENTS
: High school diploma and 3-5 years experience leading organizing campaigns; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Fluent bilingual skills are desirable, but not necessary.
