An opportunity is currently available for a Part-Time Behavior Support Companion - Home:
Qualifications/Requirements:
High school diploma and completion of relevant competency based training developed by IABA. Valid California Driver's License, DMV report, and proof of automobile insurance. Current CPR and First aid training. Acceptable fingerprint clearance. Staff must be physically able to implement all strategies as they are defined in IABA’s “Emergency Management Guidelines,” including geographical and emergency physical containment. Staff must be able to physically lift and carry up to 20-pound items (e.g., groceries, houseware items, move furniture). As well as be able to physically assist, guide, and facilitate movement of consumers that may need physical assistance (e.g., wheelchair transfer, walking, etc.).
Training:
The BSC-H will be expected to participate in approximately 40 hours of required training and would complete it during the first three months of employment. Training requirements include: Competency Based Training, on the job field based training and other training provided by the professional staff of IABA and/or professionals outside the agency.
Goal:
To provide one-to-one support to consumers. To allow and encourage consumers to live in the least restrictive environment by providing intensive support services.
Responsibilities:
The BSC-H will serve as the primary support staff and will possess the necessary skills to deal effectively with the day-to-day challenges of providing in home behavior support services to consumers, including the demonstrated ability to increase specified consumer's skills. They are also responsible for record keeping for each of the service recipients. Hours of work will be based on consumers' needs. May work on a rotating schedule.
Job Duties:
Job duties for each BSC-H will necessarily be based on each consumer's particular disabilities and needs. However, the general job duties that the BSC-H can be expected to perform are as follows:
(1) The primary responsibility of the BSC-H will be for the implementation and monitoring of consumers' Individual Support Plan (ISP).
(2) The BSC-H will be responsible for the implementation of all behavior programs designed to reduce the consumer’s challenging behavior (if indicated) in accordance with the ISP. The BSC-H is also expected to document the frequency and nature of behavior challenges occurring during the shift in accordance with the ISP.
(3) The BSC-H is to provide companionship and to supervise and monitor the consumer.
(a) The BSC-H is required to arrive at the consumer's residence on time according to scheduled hours and remain with the consumer until the shift ends or the parent/guardian arrives to be with the consumer.
(b) The BSC-H must remain with the consumer at all times and may not leave the consumer alone in the residence or in the community at any time during the shift.
(4) The BSC-H is required to supervise and/or assist the consumer with any of his/her daily routines that fall within the shift. For example, this may include meal preparation, medication administration, bathing, and/or dressing.
(5) In the event of an emergency, the BSC-H is required to provide protection to the consumer. This may include administering first aid or CPR and telephoning 911 in the event of an emergency.
(6) The BSC-H will be responsible for completing the daily case notes and reviewing the shift with parents/guardian upon the completion of each work shift.
(7) The BSC-H will be expected to exhibit a positive attitude and to assist the consumer with presenting a positive profile to the community.
(8) The BSC-H will participate as part of the service team in the monthly Periodic Service Review (PSR). This includes but is not limited to completion of responsible items and/or resolution of applicable opportunities.
