An opportunity is currently available for an Employment Specialist I :
Qualifications:
1. B.A. in education, psychology, or related field or experience relevant to relationship and/or skill building with persons with developmental disabilities;
2. Valid California Driver’s License and operational vehicle;
3. Possess physical ability to:
a. Implement all strategies as defined in IABA’s “Emergency Management Guidelines”, including geographical and physical containment
b. Lift & Carry up to 25 pound items
c. Physically assist, guide, & facilitate movement of consumers that need physical assistance (e.g., transfer in/out of wheelchair, support while walking, etc…)
4. Must be bilingual (English/Spanish)
Responsibilities:
1. Develops friendly respectful relationships with adults with developmental disabilities.
2. Completes specified number of required Criterion Referenced, Competency Based Training by end of 90 day Introductory Period, and remaining required topics by end of six months.
3. Facilitates day-to-day supports for and directly supervise individuals with developmental disabilities for total service day in employment and community settings.
4. Facilitates/provides functional training in vocational, domestic, recreational, leisure and community access in accordance with the Individual Service Plan.
5. Implements all support plans for individuals with developmental disabilities, in accordance with the Individual Service Plan and/or Comprehensive Functional Assessment, and data collection procedures as prescribed.
a. Keeps data summaries and graphs current
b. Scores 90% or above on Inter-observer and Procedural Reliability checks
6. Participates with other members of the interdisciplinary team in the process of individualized service planning including:
a. assessment of person's strengths and needs
b. Comprehensive Functional Assessment, when prescribed
c. the determination of long-term and short-range objectives
d. activities to accomplish the objectives
e. a data-based monitoring and tracking system
f. a review process
g. documentation of all the above in the person's records
h. writing Individual Service Plan and Semi-Annual Reports and submitting them for review and approval of the team.
7. Implements all strategies as defined in IABA’s “Emergency Management Guidelines”, as prescribed for individuals.
8. Acts as a consultant to business on hiring, training and supporting people with developmental disabilities.
9. Acts as a liaison between community and/or employment sites and agency administration.
10. Facilitates public (community) relations.
11. Assists in procuring employment opportunities for individuals by implementing prescribed job development strategies and coordinating with management team members.
12. Ensures that the people served present as normal and as positively valued a profile to the community as is possible. This includes presenting self as a role model for appropriate behavior and citizenship while working with individuals.
13. Treats people served in accordance with ethical practice and legal mandates.
14. Physically assists, guides, and facilitates movement of individuals with disabilities and assists with personal care such as eating, using restroom, or dressing, as prescribed based on needs of individuals.15. Supervises the taking of and/or administers prescribed medications that are self-administered in accordance with physician's instruction, state regulations, and documents according to written policy and assists in monitoring health care and well-being of individuals.
16. Gives first aid and emergency treatment as needed and consistently uses universal precautions.
17. Lifts & carries items of up to 25 pounds, such as notebooks, program supplies, assistive equipment, as necessary based on needs of individuals and/or assignments.
18. Contributes to team score of at least 85% on Periodic Service Reviews by completing regular job duties and those assigned during the PSR sessions.
19. Attends contact meetings, staff meetings, quarterly in-service training sessions, conferences and other meetings as assigned or scheduled.
20. Completes up to 5 hours per week of Indirect Service Hours to enrich services, which may include administrative tasks in the office, as assigned. Indirect service hours must be completed in office at least three days per week until Introductory Period is complete.
21. Coordinates on a regular basis with other team members, Supervisors and Managers, being directly accountable to the Supervisor.
22. Represents and conducts self in accordance with STEP and IABA Mission, Vision, & Values.
23. Adheres to all IABA and STEP policies and procedures.
24. Assists individuals in utilizing public and generic transportation and provide transportation to individuals as assigned.
25. Maintains individual’s records and administrative documentation including but not limited to participant notebook, participant casefile and administrative documentation.
26. Maintains consistent, positive attitude that is imperative to the success of the service.
