Summary:
Reporting to the Director of HIM, the Assistant Director is responsible for the overall Record Completion and Correspondence functions including administrative oversight of disclosure of protected health information at four satellite clinics. The incumbent will organize, plan, control and manage the activities of the workgroup and leads, and has overall responsibility for training, work performance, resolution of operational and personnel issues, evaluations, hiring, and corrective action. Specific duties include managing Human Resources and expense utilization; assuring that the standards of operation of the department are in compliance with regulatory agencies and participating on departmental and medical center-wide performance improvement projects. Responsible for management of the department-specific system applications including all SoftMed applications and the central dictation, transcription and electronic signature systems for the Medical Center as well as physician training in the use of these systems. Responsible for direction of the department in the absence of the Director. Serves as Custodian of Records, representing the Medical Center, in response to subpoenas for medical information. Responsible for medical record forms review and approval as Chair of Forms Committee. Serves as a role model and resource to colleagues, staff, and others

Required:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Demonstrated experience in management in an HIM environment
Ability to compile, interpret and evaluate statistical and medical data
Continuing membership with the AHIMA
RHIA certification
Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing patient privacy and medical information
Strong knowledge of JCAHO Health Information Management standards
Bachelor's or Master's Degree, preferably in Health Information Management

Desired:
Strong PC skills
Training in Continuous Quality Improvement, Total Quality Management
