Job Description:

The CIO provides technology vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology solutions to optimize business performance and support the short term and long term objectives of the business. This individual is responsible for the planning and execution of an information technology vision and corresponding systems architecture that supports the objectives, mission and vision of AGIA. This position is also responsible for operating and maintaining all aspects of technology in all site locations and plays a key role in business continuity recovery planning and testing. The CIO collaborates with leaders at the highest level of the organization and manages a team of professionals who are accountable for the delivery of a wide breadth of information system and technology services including systems analysis, programming and hardware/software acquisition, implementation, development, maintenance and support


Accountabilities include:



  • Lead an organization of IT professionals who work collaboratively with business leaders to provide new capabilities and improve productivity to support AGIA’s strategic initiatives and objectives.

  • Chair the Information Systems Steering Process and enforce corresponding policies and practices for Information Systems resource prioritization, investment and ROI.

  • Establish and enforce a standard disciplined development methodology that adheres to industry best practices and ensures a stable, scalable, resilient, redundant, documented and high quality product.

  • Create and manage system related resources, project plans, priorities, workflows, risks and deliverables.

  • Communicate project status and conflicts to the Sr. Executive Team and IS Steering Committee

  • Manage the IS/IT team to ensure AGIA’s hardware and application architecture supports stated business objectives.

  • Ensure IS/IT resources required to support AGIAs stated and defined corporate objectives and initiatives are anticipated and proposed as necessary in order to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.

  • Oversee analysis, development, modification, installation, testing and maintenance of new/existing systems, applications, databases, and software. Manage new systems and upgrades/enhancements to existing systems.

  • Maintain all applications at version levels that meet business needs and ensure proper support, flexibility and responsiveness.

  • Document and safeguard full scope technology map of AGIA including all hardware and software/applications on any platform (iSeries, PC’s, Web etc.).

  • Develop and support as required data warehouses for analysis, trends and modeling.

  • Mentor and develop a team of IS/IT professionals who adhere to professional best practices and engage in continuing education to ensure skills and abilities keep pace with business requirements and need. --Institute formal continuing education plan for all IT/IS team members. --Develop, maintain and monitor policies and procedures relating to system development, documentation, maintenance, security and product quality.

  • Create performance standards and corresponding dashboard to ensure team deliverables meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.

  • Serve as AGIA’s primary system Security Officer. Design and implement documented automated solutions to ensure security, backup, recovery and confidentiality of personal health and financial information. Participate on the Business Continuity Governance Committee and actively participate in BCP tests. Ensure every vendor partner that interfaces with AGIA’s technology model Is an approved vendor by AGIA Compliance.

  • Negotiate and maintain effective and financially compelling contracts and relationship with vendors and other service providers.

  • Identify and document back up strategic partnerships for single point of failure systems and relationships. Collaborate with the COO, CFO and CEO to ensure long term enterprise wide contracts meet strategic and financial ROI criteria. Verify every service provider and partner adheres to industry standard security and privacy practices as defined and approved by AGIA Compliance.

  • Support the CEO and senior management team to achieve stated budgetary and financial performance targets and drive maximum company shareholder value.

  • Lead divisional budget development and maintenance process. Measure and monitor division financial results. Report budget vs. actual deviations and recommendations for how to react to deviations on time to state CFO performance criteria.

  • Ensure all direct reports deliver expected results and manage responsibilities as outlined in the job descriptions and corresponding performance metrics and standards.


Requirements include:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Engineering or related area from an accredited institution is required. A Masters Degree is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with IS/IT systems and IS/IT management at a senior level with a sequence of increasing responsibilities in large and diverse business settings.

  • Familiarity with insurance preferred.

  • 10+ years managerial experience and 20+ years technical IS/IT experience.

  • Experience with and understanding of strategic and business planning methods, tools, and processes.

  • Experience in working through major organizational change.
